Iron Pigs remain fun to follow. 6-0 win. Crismatt with 7 shutout innings, not many Ks but effective. Stubbs with a 3-run HR.

Miller and Anthony with 2 hits each as Reading captures a rare win, 3-2. Alvarez, their closer, lets in the proximity run but finishes it out.

Threshers get a 7-2 win scoring 7 runs on 5 hits (and 9 walks).

Victor Cardoza getting the bump to Clearwater after a HR in the early FCL games. He was an offensive star last year in the DSL. 952 OPS last year in the DSL (though it was his second year there). Still 19 years old.

Stubbs with a 3-run HR.

Stubbs is hitting over .300; given the struggles of Marchan (both at the plate and lack of success for starting pitchers when he’s behind the plate), I wonder if a promotion to the major league club is in the cards sometime soon?

Edit: I forgot that Marchan is out of options; I don’t think we’ll be seeing Stubbs in Philadelphia anytime soon

Ironically what Marchan probably needs is playing time. It is certainly too early to give up on him but that doesn't mean his spot is safe forever. So long as the team is winning you can live with it just like they lived with Stubbs being a pretty weak producer, especially since they don't know if JT will be here next year. But if July comes and the Phillies are in multiple post-season races, and you can both get something in return for Marchan and upgrade the major league team (maybe even w/ someone other than Stubbs), you'd have to think about it.

For now let's just hope JT stays healthy. Marchan's fragility seemingly not a factor given he doesn't play enough. But odds are Stubbs will be up eventually

Tiny sample size so not really that concerning. Moving up a level (really 2 with Clearwater) and the Ks are to be expected for a power hitter at a young age. Ks were acceptable last season in the DSL (44 in 178 plate appearances). If Cardozo can put up something near a 700 OPS in Clearwater at his age it will be a good year even with a likely 30%+ K rate.

An arm to keep an eye on this year in DSL - Gustavo De La Cruz, throws mid 90s and is 18. Phillies signed him mid July last year.
