i am pleasantly surprised the FCL is part of the rolling box link. The Milb site still does not have rosters or real standing and league pages up yet.

Jamari Baylor starts strong with a 1B and SB. He is probably the best prospect on the team. And our first look at our Italian pitcher.

Apparently the other team started 38-year-old John Axford rehabbing. Roster seems a bit thin on position players so far. Andrick Nava for instance would be right up there with Baylor among the better prospects on the team. On the pitching side we'll get our first look at the two HS NDFAs signed last year in Corey Phelan and Jake McKenna with McKenna being the one to watch. DJ Jefferson from 2 years ago also. Josh Gessner and Carlos Betancourt are among the higher dollar pitching international signings.

What does FCL stand for? I always thought GCL (Gulf Coast League) was a misnomer since several teams played on or closer to the Atlantic coast of Florida.

The roster at milb.com is not complete. For example, Jamari Baylor led off today for the FCL Phillies - but he's not listed on the roster! This is true of a couple of other guys in the lineup today (Gonzalez, Pineda, Viloria). I presume the data entry people at milb.com will get caught up, at some point...

The extraordinary thing, to me, is that the web sites' various pages do not seem to pull from a unified back end. So there are transactions listed on individual player pages that do not appear in the league transactions, and that do not result in players appearing on the rosters they're listed as assigned to. Jamari Baylor doesn't appear to even have a player page - he doesn't come up in searches at all.

He is probably not much of a prospect because he is older, but yes, Wilson Valdez is the Jr. son of the Phillies' Wilson Valdez of years past.

Nava is listed on the Clearwater roster, on the 7-Day IL.

Thanks. Figured he was on an injured list. So in terms of top 30/50 prospects, that we have not seen yet, I think Jamari Baylor may be the only one on the FCL team unless some of the pitchers we have not seen like McKenna get ranked there.

Missing decent prospects include Erik Miller, Andrick Nava, and Simon Muzziotti. Assume our 2 top international signings this past January will both go to the DSL on 7/12 (Rickardo Perez and Yemal Flores). No news I have seen on Miller who was supposedly a prospect that could have moved quickly.

Erik Miller is on the AA roster, on the IL. Muzziotti, who had been on the 40-man roster, was optioned to the Alternate Training Site in mid-March, and was added to the Restricted List on March 25th, reportedly due to visa issues (thus, off the 40-man). As best I can tell, he's still on the Restricted List, and may not be in the US. He doesn't appear on any minor-league roster.

God forbid, Muzziotti may have said something nice about the Venezuelan government, and been put on some "undesirables" list by the State Department. Venezuela's currently on the enemies list, so anything's possible.

I knew about Muzziotti as we have talked about it regarding 40-man slots. I was mainly trying to summarize which top 30ish prospects are still missing.

It has been awhile, but Azuaje was the speedy shortstop mentioned in the articles where we signed Starlyn Castillo. Medium bonus but he had a nice DSL season 2 years ago and got this mention in BA of DSL prospects to watch back in 2019:

"Azuaje distinguished himself for his 70 speed and quick-burst athleticism when he signed last year out of Venezuela. At the time, Azuaje looked more like a raw athlete with a high swing-and-miss rate, but the Phillies liked his hitting ability. So far, Azuaje has hit .292/.328/.522 through his first 29 games, showing surprising power compared to what he showed coming into the year, although with just three walks and a relatively free-swinging approach."

Translated: He fits right in with the Phillies' philosophy of hacking away.

Seriously, he needs to get control of the zone because "free swingers" become" bad hitters" as the pitching advances.
