Casey Martin promoted from Clearwater to Jersey Shore today.

That was pretty quick though I imagine the goal was to get him to Jersey Shore as quickly as possible because that is where a high college pick belongs in their first full season. His BB and K ratios, especially the last couple weeks, have been better than expected. Only really showed doubles power (and speed of course), but I was more concerned with how he handled the strike zone offensively. They also must be OK with his defensive development to do this promotion (which also gets Luis Garcia back to SS most of the time - Jamari Baylor seems ticketed for FCL).

Pretty good outing for Morales. Remember the Phillies have NOT demoted him for a reason. I still have hope that he can be at least a high leverage reliever.

Reading got no-hit by Binghampton tonight. Combined, 6 IP by starter Josh Walker, and 3 IP by reliever Andrew Mitchell. Josh Walker was a 37th round draft pick. Wonder how many of those have thrown a combined No-No in AA?

He was still all over the place, he just managed to limit the walks. He was landing his really nasty slider for strikes more frequently and that overmatched the opposition along with 94-96 mph 2 seemer. It was like watching Ken Howell back in the day.

That is actually encouraging. I know we would all prefer him to develop as a starter, but it is not unreasonable to think that trying to control 4 pitches is harder than controlling two, and we know he has two plus major league pitches (fastball, slider). His stuff does not seem diminished even if his control is all over the place now after the layoff. I was surprised he did not figure out a way to get regular innings in the Dominican last winter.

Wild pitches are a problem and you probably don't want to see that in guy from the pen. 3 last night, somehow only 7 for the season- his catchers are doing a great job blocking.
