I wonder how interesting it really is. What is his slash line over the past 30 games? Over the past 20 games? When I see a sample like that (24 games?), my first reaction is that someone probably cherry-picked that interval, because it supported their argument.

I know what you are saying about cherry picking, but I think the 24 games is what Kingery has played in the past calendar month, from May 11th to June 11th. Still cherry picking (why a month?), but less arbitrary.

Jake Cave has only played 31 games and we've been talking about how great he is for several weeks. Maybe not a cherry-pick per se, but still no more or less significant compared to other data we have on both players. Also there's some logic, however fallacious, in saying it shows improvement.

The bigger cherry-pick, Kingery is hitting .440 in June (8 games).

Even his time in the majors, Kingery has had months that he was incredibly hot, and then he returns to well below average. He seems to be streaky, honestly I think the Phillies have moved on from him unless we lose a bunch of utility types.

Well yeah, he's now behind Ellis on the depth chart and Guthrie is still technically a 2B/3B too. At this point it's a spot the Phillies could stand to upgrade (over Harrison) and a lot would have go wrong for him to get a shot. And it's safe to say they won't be offering arbitration (and even safer so say they won't pick up the option before declining to do so).
