First chance to see Jean Cabrera on video. He was 93-95 mph, but it was flat, except when it was up. He was throwing an 80-81 mph slurve early that looked like a tough pitch to hit at that level, but also like an advanced hitter would have an easy time identifying it as a breaking ball. Later in the game he was able to manipulate the pitch (either by accident or design) to have more 12-6 break. He may be better off developing a true slider and a true curve. He also threw a straight pitch at 86 mph that I gather was his changeup. He didn't have the "wow, that guy is something" I was hoping to see, but he has the building blocks to keep getting better.
Ben Brown, on the other hand, with his downward delivery and big frame gets his curve to come out of the same slot as his fastball making it a really tough pitch. He works his fastball up a lot to make that curve as deceptive as it is, but he seems to spend most of his starts belt high or above. So between that and an inconsistent release point that makes him a little wild in the zone, it will be interesting to see how he develops. Having him around Painter and Abel has to be a good thing too- they are all similar, yet different enough to maybe be able to help each other.
