DJ Jefferson rehab at FCL went well. He has barely pitched since signing as the rare HS free agent in 2019 and was truly awful last season as he was working through whatever injury he had.

Lee was HBP late in the game on 5/31, and has not played since. I haven't been able to find any details of an injury, but this appears to be why he hasn't been playing.

Clearwater placed Lee on the 7-day injured list on June 7, retroactive to June 6, 2022, so whatever it is, he apparently has not recovered as quickly as they anticipated. I've no idea why they made it retroactive only to June 6, since he hasn't played since May 31st. If we take it as reported, he would be eligible to play on the 14th.

I think its because there is no reason to at this point. Does he deserve promotion? Probably. But.. ONce he gets to AAA... where does he go? There is still 3.5 years on Realmuto's contract. And while hes having a down year offensively, his defense has been insanely good. With the Phillies now looking like they may fight for a playoff spot, they arent going to trade JT.

And I dont see them trading them in the winter either.

Soo.. Im think O'Hoppe gets 2022 in AA, 2023 in AAA.. Then maybe backup MLB in 2024. Unless the Phillies include him in a trade package.

They'll probably trade Marchan or Sands at the deadline, which will let O'Hoppe finish the year at AAA. But he's also probably fine in AA even if his bat isn't as challenged there. More important he just continues catching and there's probably less playing time in AAA no matter how they do it.

I would also never say never about them trading either JT or O'Hoppe himself, just depends how things play out over the next 18 months. Both things drastic/far-fetched (JT would mean a much more aggressive pivot to retooling, O'Hoppe would mean they actually look like a World Series team).

They'll probably move O'Hoppe at midseason if things remain the same. Marchan DOES deserve a chance to play and there is no rush for O'Hoppe even if he is trade bait. Plenty of time for him to experience at least a half season at each level.

I'd love to see Sands play again too. He is the easy trade and would have gotten more than we gave up for him in the offseason if he kept hitting the way he was early in the year. Not sure Marchan has more value today even if we have a little bit of a sentimental attachment to him. He really needs to show he can be at least a 600+ OPS bat in the majors to even be a backup and he has not shown that yet. His development has been so disjointed that he really deserves the playing time in AAA for a few months.

Let's revisit this at the All Star break. I assume O'Hoppe has got to be a good candidate for the futures game and moving him up after that might be about the best timing for all involved.

We all talk about Realmuto's athleticism but the only other position talk for him has been 1B (probably because there is no time for him to learn a second position). But looking at his quickness, speed, and arm, is there any reason he could not be a better defensive player than the current incumbents at 3B, LF, and RF if he really tried?

Realmuto at another position has to be part of the O'Hoppe equation but that position has got to be further left on the defensive spectrum than 1B for it to be worthwhile.

The Phillies kind of took away a partial path by signing so many DHs; compounded by the current Harper situation of course. But if they did trade Hoskins you could probably live with Realmuto's bat at 1B/DH for 40-50 games (and Schwarber the rest of the time) if the reduced work at catcher did him good, and you wanted to play the other guy.

If Realmuto is at 3B then of course we are still also asking if Bohm's bat is good enough for 1B/DH.
