The 180-man domestic limit is definitely forcing changes. We are bringing the DSL players over later. We are also drafting fewer HS and junior college players. A young domestic player might require 5-7 years in the system taking up a roster spot while a college player requires only 3-5.
The elimination of the short season leagues beyond complexes has pushed those older players down to FCL for the most part. There are fewer college slots for sure (rounds 21-30 in the draft being gone), but it probably hurts HS players more because they were always an important part of our NY-Penn team.
FWIW both of our DSL teams are about a half year older than league average according to baseball reference. Hitters and pitchers. Some of this is due to having 2 teams which naturally allows more spots for older players, but most of it is that the DSL is just now a bit older league than it used to be.
