38 year old RHP Carlos Carrasco pitching for Scranton today. Guy was the centerpiece of the Phillies Cliff Lee trade.

Started 283 games in the big leagues over parts of 16 seasons, career ERA a bit over 4. Basically a #3 starter. Decent value for the Indians/Guardians and his subsequent teams. Career earnings of $77M!

He's had a very good career. Was definitely a 2 if not a 1 during his peak years in Cleveland. Now he's veteran filler, but has already started eight games for the Yankees this year.

I think I mentioned this in another thread but Rich Hill, Vince Velasquez and Robert Stock all making AAA starts this week too.

Maylerson Casanova has an .837 OPS in the Dominican Summer League and somehow that ranks only 89th among DSL hitters.

Remember there are 52 teams in the league. And undoubtedly some overage kids on some rosters. Just lots and lots of players to theoretically rank.

Some lesser known players of the month. Reyes may not be a great prospect, but he is fun to watch. Ramon Marquez is somebody I know nothing about (Matt?). Signed in the 2025 international class but is 19 and was born in Phoenix. Must not have played HS ball in the U.S. or he went undrafted and then just got signed over the winter.

Marquez was signed out of Mexico, but grew up in Phoenix so International FA. I have him 92-94, but he has reportedly gotten to 96. Good build, good command. Changeup is the pitch that has really stood out, but the slider is useable. Good chance he ends up above Brad Pacheco and Angel Liranzo on midseason list.

Biddison made it all the way to AAA this year, and played a lot at AA Midland and put up a high OPS. Only 24, but should be in Reading, not JS.

Is he ahead of Miller already?

Meh Painter start...good BB/K numbers, but gave up 7 hits in 5 IP.

Sometimes I think Painter is just going to be a September call-up, though with Abel done and Nola still more than a month away, maybe they just bring him up until Nola's ready and then if it's at all bumpy, send him back down until then.

After the one bullpen game we will not need the 5th starter until July 22. Painter could get 2 more starts in the minors before then. Or Abel could and fix some things.

It is a national TBS game, so no pressure on Painter....

Watching Painter pitch this year has been eerily similar to watching Mark Appel pitch. It’s good stuff, around the zone…just not fooling anyone.

My goal for Painter this year is to end the season healthy. Anything else is gravy. He’s still building back strength and feel from before TJ. I expect he’ll fool way more hitters next spring.

Yeah that's fair. But there's been such a focus on what he can do in MLB this year.

Wouldn't be the end of the world for service time and ROTY and incentives either. If Walker can just keep pitching to a 4.00 ERA, which he's already been better than, that might be better for the bullpen too. If they really have no intention of putting Painter in any role other than a starter on a starter's routine he's not a post-season option either.

He still a little off in velocity and clearly command. No reason to worry but agree him coming up in a few weeks is not a certainty. Might depend on what they anticipate from Nola.
