Pimpkin with 6 shutout innings to win the first game of the doubleheader 2-0. He really pitched- he seemed to throw at least 50% off speed, and the majority of those a change up he was commanding really well. Fastball was mostly 92-95, but he was throwing fastballs , change, sliders, curves, maybe even some 2 seamers (or change ups that didn’t dip much)

He was 94-97, but still all over the place. He always looks like he’s flying open or holding on too long when he throws fastballs- like it isn’t comfortable for him..They couldn’t touch his slider, though it had a bigger break than usual- like a curve ball. A couple of times it looked 12-6, so maybe it was a lot of curves tonight.

Really nice pitching everywhere in the system yesterday. Morales' box score line is certainly intriguing--6 IP, no hits, 8 K's, 1-7 record with an era over 8. Did he change something or just get lucky? Howard with a really nice 5 IP at LV, too.

Luis Garcia had 2 of the 4 hits by CLW, and 7 of their 9 total bases.

I really want to get a good look at Morales. I think he has a ++ slider and a + fastball and is just working on command. When the Phillies did not send him down after struggling I think that was a signal that he was working on things more than failing. He also had a number of outings where the first couple of innings went well before things fell apart.

Like it or not, this is how we develop guys with plus stuff. We challenge them on levels while also have them work on things that may not necessarily translate into clean outings. I wonder if we are developing another 3-4 inning pitcher here rather than a starter. Is the future filled with guys that pitch 120 innings a year in shorter outings rather than 180-200 innings?

I'm not really sure that we develop them to be that...players with plus stuff and who are able to harness those tools turn into top of the rotation starters while those who struggle to put it together turn in to 3-4 inning starters...or in the case of a morales...a possible high leverage reliever.
