Caba was in the starting lineup for Clearwater in yesterday's game that got rained out. Tait was not, but today is a double-header so hopefully we will see both of them. And Ezra Farmer who also got promoted from FCL Farmer is not a top prospect but was too old for FCL (just turned 21).

It's pretty clear he's still adjusting to JS. It's good he's being challenged. I expect his OBP and AVG to go up, but it's always difficult hitting at JS.

Slightly off topic: how far is JS from the actual JS? I've still not been to game up there. (I mean, I know it's slightly inland and what it's generally near, but where's the obvious beach to go to on a game day?)

Very close to Lakewood, NJ, beaches. Seaside Heights is pretty close, it's a boardwalk beach and it's pretty honky-tonk. One island south of Seaside Hts. is Long Beach Island, really nice beaches there, but they are more weekly-rental houses than day trippers these days. Day passes can be a bit expensive in some of the townships. Probably about 1/2 hour to Seaside, about 1 hour to LBI.

Forgot to add that maybe the best beaches in NJ are at Island Beach State Park, just south of Seaside Heights on the same island. Pretty deserted beach area for NJ, not sure what park admission costs these days. Google it; it gets great reviews.

I grew up going to LBI but that's a shlep. Didn't realize Seaside was quite as close as it is. But I was looking to get more granular, I.e. the answer is almost certainly Point Pleasant or Bay Head, but which specific spot. I do kind of know the area, I used to live in Monmouth County, but I always have in my mind that the ballpark is more of a coastal experience than it actually is.

The ballpark is very close to the geometric center of Lakewood. It is definitely closer to Mantoloking and Bay Head than Seaside, but I don't know much about those beaches in terms of access, etc. Personally, I'd schlep to LBI, but that is a long drive so I understand why people wouldn't.

Apologies for my contribution to the off-topic, but when you live on the mainland across from the beach you still say you live on the shore. Outsiders go "to the shore". Locals go to the beach.

I grew up 4 houses from the ocean in Surf City, NJ, at my grandparents' house. So I guess that was at the shore AND at the beach.

I am not opposed to LBI since I'm coming from the south anyway, was just thinking more in terms of where you could go quickly before or after a game.

And yeah, Lakewood is still the Jersey Shore, just like Toms River or Manahawkin. But an oceanfront ballpark would be a lot more interesting!

Per Google, it's 19 minutes from "Shoretown Ballpark" (which seems to be the current name?) to the Downer Ave. beach access in Mantoloking - Cedar Bridge Ave. to Mantoloking Rd. Daily beach access wristband is $13. No boardwalk, not touristy; just the beach.

It's actually kind of interesting, maybe even heartening even if it is still a branding exercise - it seems the team's ownership group essentially decided to be their own corporate sponsor. When they changed the name of the team to Jersey Shore they also made that the ballpark name, and the team's press releases are always datelined, Jersey Shore, NJ rather than Lakewood. You would think there'd be a local tourism board throwing in $ but I assume it's just a lot of local people on the ownership group who thinks the region benefits from this.

Or, of course, nobody made them a good enough offer.
