Sixto with a really solid outing, 6.2 IP no ER, 7 Ks, 1BB. CLW wins 7-2, Gamboa with 3 hits and Pujols with 4.

Damon Jones tops him with a 6 inning 1-hit outing with a walk and 9 Ks. Lakewood in its usual low scoring battle, leading 1-0. Now 1-0 lead through 8. And that's the final!

Lehigh Valley leading 3-0 behind a 5 inning, 1-hit outing by Ben Lively. Waguespack finishes the shutout, LV wins 3-0 allowing only 1 hit.

Finally Reading leading 4-3 behind a Zach Green HR and a decent 6-inning outing by El. Garcia. Seth McGarry comes in for an inning and gives up a 4-spot, Fightins now behind by 3. Reading rallies, scoring 5 in the bottom of the 8th on a Deivi Grullon slam and holding on in a wild ninth to win 9-8.

Good to see Lively get a win and combine in the shutout today. It is sometimes easy to get down after starting in the majors and then come off the DL and be optioned out.

A good day on the farm. All four teams win!

Check out phuturephillies.com for a good write-up on Sixto's start last night.

Beyond the usual reports on his electric stuff, I was encouraged by a few different things. First was to see him extended into the 7th inning at 80-something pitches, working him close to the 100-pitch mark. He needs to begin to do that as he matures and moves up the levels. Second, I think it's clear that the Phils want Sixto to work on his secondary pitches (especially his change-up), and it's good to see him have some success with that. The fastball's always going to be there, he needs the other weapons to help the fastball play up even more. Finally, good to see him work out of a jam or two and emerge with a win. I saw an earlier post this week hoping Sixto and other pitching prospects get some W's under their belt to show for their work...and here it is.
