Remember that Suarez is on the 40-man roster so there is a good chance we'll see him in September or even earlier. As a command and control guy one would not think he is a great fit for the bullpen, but it is possible his fastball plays up there in short outings (and maybe by August they'll want to limit his innings anyway).

As someone who believes the Phils new philosophy [ a Dodger like philosophy] carries over greatly to the minor leagues, I think its quite significant that last night Luke Williams not only led off, but played 1b. Clearly, to me, they are now viewing him as a potential future major leaguer who might well fill many defensive roles.

Williams is such and interesting and exceptional case. IIRC, it was Pat Gillick who scouted him extensively here in SoCal and was the driving force behind picking him in the 3rd round.

I remember that day....seems almost no one had heard of him, we were all dumbfounded and had to search deep in the high school archives to find out anything about him. I recall other teams saying "who?" when he was picked and visions of Trey McCall crept into the minds of us long time Phillie draft nuts. I won't even attempt to recreate that fiasco, needless to say it was not one of the Phils finer moments and Williams was viewed skeptically to say the least.

But he did well as a rookie, then literally collapsed offensively for two years and two months, a seeming washout that guys at PP were suggesting would get released after the June draft.

Then a funny thing happened. Williams began hitting like Tony Gwynn, not only raising his average over 100 points [not easy to do in late May/early June] but hitting home runs at a pace that Alec Bohm would be proud of.

Next, the Phils began experimenting with him in the outfield and now at 3rd base. It might just be a mirage, but I don't think so. I think his talent finally caught up with his athletic skills and the Phils someday may be the beneficiaries of one of Gillick's last major suggestions as a Phillie head domo...the drafting of Mr. Irrelevant, Luke Williams.

How did the GCL Phillies West get the game in in Clearwater but the GCL Phillies East didn't (rained out) against one of the Yankees' GCL teams only about ten miles away in Tampa?

Pitching continues to be the organization's strength. In the 5 games in the upper leagues, at this moment we have only allowed a total of 8 runs.

Great game for Spencer Howard. Offensive star of the night was Jan Hernandez at Reading, 3/4 with a HR. WMPT had a bullpen implosion and lost 6-5. LV keeps doing it with pitching and mirrors.

PC...Green with 3 more hits, almost up to .300 and probably moving to LHV soon. Tromp with 3 doubles, has also been hot. If Williamsport reliever gets one more out, its a 5-1 day. Again, lots to like throughout system except the big guys at CBP.
