One of the reasons Williamsport is pretty bad this year is that we jumped some of the good GCL pitchers directly to Lakewood. Santos, Pipkin, Ben Brown. I think Williamsport will be better next year simply because we have a better set of GCL pitchers that probably should not be skipped to Lakewood:

Victor Vargas and Carlos Betancourt (age 18) - 2 mid-range bonus guys from our 2017 international class
Eduar Segovia (age 18)
Brandon Ramey (age 18 from the 2018 draft)
Gunner Mayer (age 18 from the 2019 draft)

That is 6 different 18-year-olds pitching well that one could see as the heart of a 2020 Williamsport staff. Not even including Starlyn Castillo yet. I could see them pushing a couple to Lakewood next year (like Mayer), but really these guys should go 1 level at a time.

Vargas vs Segovia today in the intersquad scrimmage. Should we root for a 0-0 score for the first 3 or 4 innings then a slugfest after the better prospect pitchers are out of the game?

I think we noted Johan Rojas a couple of days ago, but the other GCL leadoff hitter, Wilfredo Flores, also continues to hit. They were both lower profile signees who spent 1 season in the DSL.

He is only staying if for some reason we want to win the league. i think, in only a handful of at bats that he is ready for at least the next league.

Stott is not staying. The Phillies have a pattern in this regime of wanting to keep number one college picks in GCL for a week or two. It is not because they need or should be at GCL. I think they just want them around the complex for a little while so they have access to the best coaches and facilities before they are sent up to Williamsport. Maybe there is a little media training on how to be a top pick. Oddly they are sent to GCL because they are better and more important than the other top 10 round college prospects who go straight to Williamsport.

The only other college players at GCL are generally lesser prospects.

Whereas Williamsport and Lakewood allows the brass to watch you in person, but it makes it harder to provide instruction.
