Whatever they do, please keep the kids Flores, Nava and Wingrove away from Driveline. They all seem to have that "hit" tool so please leave them alone.

I am really hopeful about Nava. No power yet, but 17-year-old catchers that are good enough to hit 3rd in GCL do not come around every day. And he only got a nominal bonus. I think he and Starlyn Castillo are the only 2 16 year olds signed in the 2018 J2 period to skip the DSL (Geraldo was an August birthday in the 2017 J2 class and Gessner is already 19).

Reading finally posted that Howard will be starting tonight.

Right now across Williamsport, Lakewood, Clearwater, and Reading we don’t have a single player (at least of the players who played tonight) who is hitting .300. And really there is only one who is close. Not good at all.

Almost no one hits .300 at either Lakewood or Williamsport because of the park factors.

That being said, Juan Aparicio is hitting an astounding .367 in 32 games at WMPT. McCarthy Tatum and Hunter markwardt are both over .300 in a handful of games. Muzziotti, Maton, and Scheiner are all hitting reasonably at CLW, which is playing as an extreme pitchers'' park this year.

The South Atlantic league average is .239. There are only 5 players in the league over .300.

The Florida State league average is .242. One player is hitting over .300.

The New York Penn league average is .232. 8 hitters over .300 but these are pretty small samples.

I think a better indicator is probably where do our guys rank (plus age) and not above/below a certain number. For example - Nick Maton and Simon Muzziotti are both top 10 in Batting avg. Jhailyn Ortiz is 3rd in HRs.

In-person observations from the Reading game:

-Delayed start meant a big portion of the crowd went home before the game started, and also gave me a chance to watch Spencer Howard warm up before the game, which was probably my personal favorite part of the night. For the game itself:

-Howard's "easy" 96 to 98 is something to be excited about for sure. Still...….secondary pitches were ineffective and some balls were hit hard thanks to guys sitting on the fastball. Great prospect but - sample size one game - not looking like a major leaguer yet
-Bohm, much like when I saw him in spring training, made hard contact but pounded the ball in to the ground each time up (plus one soft liner to right). He also has not been walking lately. Ran the bases very well for a guy so tall.
-Moniak had an awful first at bat against Altoona's lefty starter, but looked like a hitter each of his next at bats.
-Best looking hitter was Josh Stephen whose stroke is just very smooth. Did not run or field well, but could be a good pinch hitter or 4th/5th outfielder
-Most impressive pitchers was lefty reliever Hennigan who threw hard, had a good breaking ball and racked up - I think 6 strikeouts in 2+ innings of work
