Scrolling through the DSL OPS batting leaders, the first Phillie to register is Raylin Heredia...at #70. The first Phillie ranked for hits is Jorge Garcia ...at #66. How can so many other teams be so much better at this?

Raylin Heredia is at least tied at #6 for doubles.

Maxwell Hernandez is leading in era (0.44), which is 0.5 runs lower than the next pitcher. Just a start less than most of the league leaders. A 19 year old RHP only striking out a batter per inning, but a 0.76 whip and 0.136 average against. A few other pitchers doing well, but after Hernandez who ranks #40 in strikeouts, the next ranked pitchers is Jeffrey German who ranks #94 in strikeouts.

In a world where the Phillies are suddenly making good evaluations and decisions on the big league roster, this has to be the winter they shake up the scouting down there...right?

Fish, I think the DSL Phils teams rotate their rosters a bit more than other teams do, meaning that our batters will be at an AB and PA disadvantage on counting lists. Some o the more efficient Phils' players don't even qualify for the lists.

As squire noted, Rincon got activated!!

Rincon has a bases clearing 3RBI double in his debut.

It is also very possible if our teams have mediocre hitting stats and good pitching stats in the DSL that our complex "park" plays as an extreme pitchers park. Could have lots of room in the outfield and foul territory. There is no reason to think our pitchers there are that great since we have not spent lots of bonus dollars on them.

Drew a walk, stole second, but LOB.

Hoping that 2nd generation Crawford family strike zone judgement has transferred down to Justin (who is faster than JP in terms of taking advantage of it on the bases).

Lots of stuff from Steve Potter in the last 24 hours. Here is a DSL update with lots of information on age and pitcher velocity.

And some pictures/limited video on Justin Crawford today. He is really tall and lean now. I can see the power potential if he ever fills out with the same uncertainty of whether his body can really put on 20-30 pounds.

Crawford HBP in his second AB. 1.000 OBP continues; hope it was in a soft-tissue location.

The pitcher in question is also 19, which is old for a DSL prospect. Meanwhile, our lied-about-his-age $2+million man is out injured and had only put up a .206 BA in low-A CLW, while repeating the year. Age 20 for an LA prospect is terribly old. We badly need an international scouting shake-up,

I would worry less about 19-year-old pitchers. We are mainly signing young arms that need projection and development, so instant results are not expected. Plus there is the incentive to leave players in the DSL a bit longer. Our teams there are only slightly above average in age (and some of that is having 2 teams which not all organizations do). And the teams are winning so it is really hard to conclude that this crop of lower level signings in the last couple of years are good or bad.

Now Bergolla has different expectations since he represents almost half of our pool. He should dominate the DSL which he appears to be doing. Next year he'll have expectations in FCL too (and hopefully gets a little time in Clearwater at some point).

A lot of runs scored on the farm last night. looks like "Hittin' Season" is funneling down through the system. Oh, and by the way, the big O hit 2 more homers last night. Still can't get this out of my head.
