His stuff was good, but he threw a lot of cookies, like they were facing a pitching machine…and like everyone seems to know what’s coming.

This is getting to be a trend. And I definitely think he is setting up his hands a bit differently. Looks like they have found a way to have a flatter swing path without major changes to his stance. I do come back to the fact that he is more similar than dissimilar to his dad physically. He is listed at 188 pounds and his dad got up to 230, but I also would not be shocked if he settled in around 210-215 eventually and he is a bit taller than Carl. His exit velocity numbers suggest the power is there even if the swing is not quite there.

I guess I am buying into the fact that Crawford has much more power potential than the various rankings are giving him credit for.

Justin Crawford adds on to the Lehigh Valley lead with with a two-run home run to dead center field. Broadcast said an estimated 418 feet, but statcast didn’t catch the numbers. It’s the seventh homer for Crawford, and his third in his last 4 games

Crawford and Nori both off to the races this month to try to get to 50 bags. Nori has 1 week left at 44, and Crawford 2 weeks left at 46. That would be a nice cherry on top for these two.

Both of them are chasing Aiden Miller, though! We have a few pretty effective base-stealers in the system...

Also, it’s time to start talking at least a little about Jonathan Hogart at CLW...3 HRs, hitting .270 and OPS-ing over 850 in his first 60-ish ABs. Most impressively, 14 walks leading to a 440 OBP. Very good defensive RF, adequate in CF. Not many UDFAs make an impact, but Hogart has a chance, despite being 23 in the FSL. Power and patience. I’d like to see him get to Reading mid-year next season.

Scoreless inning with 2 Ks and 1 BB for Craig. No surprise he is the first higher pick to pitch this year as he is a pure reliever who is also already 23. He probably starts at Jersey Shore next season anyway if not even higher.

As I checked the boxscores this afternoon, Nori was 2/4 with a walk, OPS up to 1.067 in JS. Heck of a start for him in high A. Aberdeen isn’t as difficult a park to it in as JS, but nonetheless, that is quite a start.

Miller didn’t play today. He’s been out a couple of days, last game was Wednesday. No easy injury inference. Research shows he was placed on the temporarily inactive list on August 28th for undisclosed reasons.

Given the Miller and DeMartini SB totals I think our managers at Jersey Shore and Reading are really aggressive. Best way to learn how to do it and they can throttle back a little in AAA to become more efficient.

I like the strategy with the rule changes.

The stats have him with 11 SB and 1 CS after 6 games.

9/1/25 : News and Notes 🤔

This week's minor league pitchers include Andrew Painter, Matt Manning, Walker Buehler, and .......Gage Wood. Scheduled for an inning or two Friday in Clearwater. Last week of the High and Low A season.

And Steve has a Paul Owens award nominee piece. Does Jean Cabrera win his second? I think Crawford wins on the hitting side but the pitching choices are thin.
