Marcus Lee Sang with a HR for FCL today. He has had a weird little season like everyone down there. Promoted to Clearwater when they needed bodies, he was not quite ready for the level (as opposed to Jadiel Sanchez his fellow overslot draftee). But he is still only 20 and FCL is closer to what the NY-Penn League was in terms of competition these days so he is not really old for the level especially considering he has barely played because of the pandemic.

Sang, Sanchez, Rojas, Y. Garcia. Maybe we are finally developing some outfielder depth. Add Ethan Wilson too.

Jamari Baylor was legit hot before the Clearwater COVID shutdown and is hot right out of the gate in the first two games back. Starting to think he is legit. Might slip into the back end of our Top 10 Prospects.

Shout out to the Jersey Shore pitching staff for a combined 1-hit shutout tonight. RHP Tyler McKay pulled a Matt Moore....and did him one better, even, by retiring all 18 batters he faced.

Beautiful night for baseball in Reading last night. Morales looked pretty good to me. hit 97 in his last inning. he was around 94-95 all night. off speed (slider?) wasat 86.He lost control in the second inning and had the bases loaded with a hit and 2 walks. then he started throwing some off speed breaking stuff and got strikeouts to get out of the inning. you could tell akron was swinging at Fastballs and were fooled. he got in trouble late and hung a breaking itch to Kwan ( who should be followed as he is going to be good) and he hit it out. he gave up another run and then got out of the inning. 3-2 Rubbers. Then in the bottom of the 5th phils got 5 and in that inning (with CD's approval) Josh Stephens hit a 2 run HR to Right center. i still think after seeing him probably 3 times, he has the sweetest left handed swing in the organization. he's hitting under .200 and i can't see why he is not making it. Eastman came in in the 6th and worked the bases loaded and got out of it. i thought he used to be something in the org. Dohy finished it off in the 9th. Second game, what can you say about Crouse. I read somewhere someone compared him to Fidrych. i can see that. after the first out of the game he got the ball after a K and looked a the 3B and put up the 1 finger (not that one) to signal 1 out and then turned to the 1B and did the same. ( Shades of the bad luck move by Al Holland in the WS) clapping his hands after each inning. he pitches from the stretch all the time. he was at 94 a lot and hit a 96. off speed stuff around 84. Kwan drilled him for an RBI single (only run). Kwan also made a nice catch on Stott jumping against the fence, in Deeeeepp right center with 2 on in the third to save at least 2 runs. Both Crouse and Morales need a little bit better control but could make it. Ortiz had one nice line drive hit and hit one about 400 to CF for a long out. at least 2 or 3 K's if i'm remembering correctly. Stott had a nice line drive hit as well. Kroon hit a laser over the rightfielders head in the first game to break it open. the phils have a lot oflatemid to late round draft choices in the lineup. i think they are the least prospect laden team in the system. Ortiz, Stott, Morales, stephens (if not too old) and that is about it. NIce to be out at the ballpark again.

Second game, what can you say about Crouse. The radar gun readings are nice, though he doesn’t ‘look’ tough to hit- like his pitches don’t have the zip or spin to be REALLY good. He looks to me a lot like Efflin when he was acquired- promising, but not there yet. Plenty of room to add strength.

I am not worrying about the strikeouts that much given the pandemic layoff. He is over 33% K rate for the season, but he struck out 18 times in his first 7 games. Then 5 times in his next 9. Clearly he figured something out which is what you want 19-year-olds to do. I am more curious about his SS defense. I think he is supposed to be better than Kendall Simmons. Just not sure if he is good enough to stay at SS until we see much more.
