Crawford 2/4 yesterday (although he had a CS 3B). Boyd 1/1 with a walk. Hao Lee with 2 hits and a crucial HBP in the Clearwater game, which they won on a 4-run rally in the bottom of the 11th down 5-2. Only one hit in the rally which featured the "placed" runner, a HBP, and 3 walks, concluded by a Flores 2-run single.

I saw a video of Crawford's bunt single (Andyb posted the link yesterday, I think)--he laid down an average-at-best bunt on the 3B line, pitcher fielded cleanly and threw a rocket to first base, and Crawford beat it by at least a step out of the left-hand batters' box.

I'd have all my speedsters practice bunting until their hands bleed. With the tendency to shift today, the ability to lay down a bunt consistently could be deadly - if the 3B is just two steps closer to 2B, that's one extra step to get to an average bunt - and for a speedster, that's almost an automatic hit. Few pitchers are athletic enough to field a bunt, turn and make an accurate throw in time.

The end of the Mick Abel mini-hot streak arrived abruptly tonight.

17th round pick Daniel Harper is already 23, but could have the stuff to move pretty quickly as a reliever. Debut last night.

Daniel Harper pro debut, fastball sitting 94-97 with and averaging 2700 RPM! Cutter sitting 90-91 and just under that same 2700 RPM mark. Struck out two of the four batters he faced.

Baker is still 22 and has Jose Alvarado-like control issues (34.2 IP, 37 H, 22 BB, 48 K, 7 WP), but he was our 11th round pick last year and our 11th round picks (like Boyd this year) are usually players we like alot.

Two of the singles were soft. Hamels never had a minor league inning like that, but pretty much every other pitcher does. That's the "not great stuff tonight and no luck either" outing.
