Video on Painter's last start. He sure looks tall and intimidating, especially when he is coming out of the sun into the shaded home plate area. Might be benefitting from some of that Bailey Falter extension too but he actually does throw 98 to start with.
Sounds like the Phillies plan is to keep him in Clearwater until at least he builds up to 90-100 pitches and only then think of moving him up to Jersey Shore. Obviously there is no hurry though I do think they will want to challenge him if he has a couple more dominating starts. Starting Saturday this week.
So I looked at the Reading box score of the guy with the highest batting average is .224! Yikes.
If he has a couple more starts like the last one, the managers around the league will "make them an offer they can't refuse" to get Painter to Lakewood.
Morales to the bullpen was a great move. As a start, inconsistent at best.
So far, 11 IP, 18K, 0 runs allowed. Wonder if his velo has jumped, going to two pitches has probably also allowed him to focus on sharpening his slider.
On SF's point above, here are the BAs of Reading's starters after game 1 of the DH (click on the image to see the whole lineup):
And Vito Friscia DHed and led off in game 2 with a BA under .140.
Here is the whole roster after a relatively successful game two o the DH (once again, click to see the entire image)
As much as top tier pitching prospects - Abel, Painter, McGarry, Morales, Miller all - have been outstanding or at least demonstrating their great talent, the offensive side of the house is pretty darn depressing. I know....it's April. But soon it will not be.
