Glad to have Abel and Painter aligned on the same days, but disappointed it's once every 7 days rather than 5.

It's a long season for youngsters and pitching load needs to be managed. I'm glad the Phillies are focusing on injury prevention. Also a lot of pitchers to be developed at the A-ball level.

Every minor league baseball team in the country is off each and every Monday is a factor as well.

Long term this minor league schedule will make it trickier to train 5-man rotations. Not even sure if the Phillies do it in AA.

For those that don't want to do the math, Andrew Painter has recorded 6 outs in 3 games this year that have not come via strikeout. He has a 69.8% K% on the season.

Abel was 94-98 with good command , and none of the problems from his last start. Threw a couple really good sliders but mostly average today. Did t see many change ups.

Anyone remember a high school pick of the Phillies performing like this out of the gate since Hamels?

Not really since Hamels...this was a really, really encouraging night for the system and for the young pitchers in particular. Painter with the best outing in the minor leagues so far, Abel right behind, Armenta with a 3-strikeout, one inning save, Binns and McCollum struck out 8 in 4 IP behind Painter, Miller and Morales pitched very well for Reading with 6 Ks and no runs in 5.2 innings, and even Lehigh Valley had three relievers pitch well, and won 10-8. I think this our first 4-0 night in the minors.

He wasn't even the only minor league pitcher with a 5 IP, 14 K line yesterday. Daniel Espino did it, but he gave up a few homers. He started the game with 11 straight Ks.

And I agree that this is really encouraging for the system.

Its early....but Donny Sands looks like a legit prospect to me.
