(Reading, PA) - The Reading Fightin Phils defeated High-A Jersey Shore, 6-3, on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium. Potential future Fightin Phils got to see the stadium and see where they could be playing in the near future. For the Fightin Phils, this game was the first time new roster players got to play in their new home field.
The Fightin Phils took an early lead at the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded, a walk for Caleb Ricketts scored Leandro Pineda to make 1-0, Reading.
Going into the second, after a single by Paul McIntosh, Trent Farquhar hit a double allowing McIntosh to advance to third. Leandro Pineda hit a sac fly to score McIntosh and extend the Reading lead.
The BlueClaws got themselves on the board in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly from Jordan Viars that brought Jersey Shore home making it 3-1. Devin Saltiban helped add to the BlueClaws’ runs with an RBI double as the score became 3-2. The Fightin Phils responded at the bottom of the third with Luis Verdugo scoring on an RBI single by Elio Prado.
In the bottom of the fourth, Leandro Pineda hit a solo home run, which helps extend the Fightin Phils’ lead to 6-2. It was not until the top of the sixth that the Jersey Shore BlueClaws added to their runs with a home run by Devin Saltiban.
Things quieted down as the game headed into the final three innings. The Fightin Phils were able to hold onto their 6-3 lead through the end of the game. This scrimmage gave Leandro Pineda a chance to perform as he finished with three RBI and a home run. Robert Moore also had a solid night at bat finishing with three hits and one RBI. Chuck King came away with the win after pitching three innings and walking away with one strikeout.
