Looking ahead to the 2018 draft

Haseley had two outfield assists two nights ago. I am thinking that he must have a "plus" arm.

College pitcher so his arm should be decent at the worst, likely plus.

Funny, just yesterday I was ruminating if at some point two or three years from now, we may hear about Haseley deciding to convert to pitching after his hitting career stalled.

Haseley as a pitcher was more of a Fanti type if I recall. Left-handed but more like 88-90 with good pitchability. I suppose it is an option in the future but not sure he was rated higher than an Aaron Brown for instance. We do have some other players like Jose Pujols for example that could be converted into high velocity relievers if we thought about it. Frankly Alfaro could be an upper 90s closer most likely if it all fell apart with the bat (though I would say he is much better defensively this year and the bat is coming along).

This seems to be a little better draft.

Other thing to worry about is the amount of high draft pick pitchers getting TJ surgery. Jason Groome is not being added to that list which makes for 3 from the first round in 2016?

I’d prefer Singer. Bohm doesn’t seem to be a sure thing like Kris Bryant was out of college. Is he better than Colin Moran was as a college junior?

Bohm may not be super athletic, but he's better than Moran. Moran had a pretty good hitting pedigree in college- better than Bohm, but not nearly the power.

Bohm's not a sure thing- but at least they won't have to guess if he'll develop power. He touches the ball and it goes, he just doesn't drive it with the frequency you'd want to see.

If it was a choice between Singer or Bohm i'd probably go Singer too- but if their pick is any of Mize, Singer or Bohm- i'll be thrilled regardless of the outcome. I want no part of Bart- I think he's incredibly similar to Alfaro, right down to the questionable hit tool. .

I'm terrified by singer...If I'm picking a pitcher at 3 I'll take my chances on liberatore.

To quibble a bit with that, he doesn't have an injury history, he has rumors of a medical report that scared off the Blue Jays when they drafted him in the second round. further rumor was that was something with his shoulder. But to my knowledge he's never missed a start or shown any signs of wear and tear. He's a big, strong kid- great pitchers body. The lower arm angle guys come with the question of durability, but his angle is very similar to Nola's.

The game featured Shane McClannahan (Witchita televises their games, you can watch on the espn app). McClannahans velo was good but he wasn’t sharp. Bohm grounded out a few times against him- he seems to hit the ball on the ground way too much, but that’s correctable. He has long arms and the broadcasters mentioned that pitchers have figured out they can pitch him in. His first homer looked like it was off a hanging change up. I think his hitting profile is pretty similar to Maikel Franco- not an abundance of strikeouts, very good power, and has a problem hitting the ball on the ground too much. But I still like him- professional coaching should be able to smooth out his flaws.

Witchita’s second baseman Luke Ritter continues to look like a very strong hitter- he really lines the ball around the park.
