My dream was more the $300K-$500K variety. That is a lot for him though I guess part of the reason the Braves originally agreed for $300K was because it was really much more than $300K. Oh well..

not sure if there area any oldsters on the site, but cesar was an all star OF for the Astros. hopefully this young player has a connection. they have a large crew coming in in this period. hopefully a few hit the big time. i think i remember seeing betancourt's name as pitching in a minor game this spring. correct? if so, quite a jump for a first year player.

yes, i guess you guys are correct. i'll be 36 in a few months but i can still remember watching the game in the stadium where jim bunting beat sandy koufax at connie mack a few years ago. i think it was 1-0. Still a young pup at heart.

Cesar Cedeno was from the DR. This kid is from Venezuela. Also Cesar was guilty of both involuntary manslaughter (when he was 19) and multiple acts of violence later in his career (and after) so maybe it's just as well if there are no shared genetics.

It's just that Australians have a tendency to claim successful (non-sporting) New Zealanders as their own, especially if they've resided in Australia for a while.

Same thing happens in Ireland with successful Irishmen and women being claimed as British. This is the most recent one I can remember. Its not likely someone with the name Saoirse would be anything but Irish. Though she is also American as it happens.

I wonder does it happen with Canadians in America?

In case anyone is interested Saoirse is the Irish word for Freedom and is pronounced similar to Sear - Sha or Sur-Sha depending on where you live.

Gaelic is a bit broader than Irish, there is Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic.

Of course, there's a bit of a problem when you've been conquered by the Norse and the English, and the Celts in turn, conquered
