Understood. But since they can they have little effect on the value of 2017 allocations which remains minimal. I still want the Phillies to acquire allocations, sign $3 million of Braves prospects, then have a fresh set of 2018 allocations to work with.

My top candidate just signed with the Royals:

Seems the new bonuses will be less than the previous ones which makes sense with the players keeping their old bonus.

One edit/note. Royals are in the penalty for 2017 so this signing is using their 2018 pool money (for which they get an extra million compared to the Phillies).

Angels are signing Maitan according to Buster Olney. Terms TBA. Remember they just traded for $1.21 million in allocations in the Jim Johnson deal, so this could be with 2017 money.

Angels still in the running for Ohtani of course so this could be either 2017 or 2018 money. Unclear if they have to designate which now.

More details. $2.2 million apparently so that would be 2018 money. They had a little more than $1.3 million in 2017 money.

Severino is the only other guy i can see getting over a million bucks. After that, the only other guy worth any kind of money I think is Guttierez- and that's only because at least when he was 15 someone thought he looked good.

With zero evidence I would have to guess we might be interested in Zuniga. Partly the Alfaro connection in Colombia and partly because we signed the top pitcher out of Colombia in this period. That said, Zuniga is really, really raw and is probably not worth a huge bonus, so he could be signed without trading for allocations. Zuniga is mostly projection now but a good athlete which is the type of pitcher we are often interested in (6/3", 195, 88-93 now, decent curve, no command now).

I guess I am expecting one but emotionally preparing for none. I don't think they will use any 2018 pool money but if they can get one for the 900K in remaining 2017 pool money (+200K not counted amount), they might.

If they don't use the money for any of the former Braves is there any other possiblities? Any significant international signings possible? Starting to wonder what the point of trading for the extra allocation if it is not used.

We actually are only about 2 months away from pitchers and catchers reporting and we have not signed anyone yet. I know this has been a slow offseason but at some point we have to try to not be the worst team in the majors.

There are at least 2 high end prospects beyond the Braves prospects. Julio Pablo Martinez is a Cuban OF who still needs to be cleared but should be on the market shortly in the $1M-$2M range. Then there is the guy the Twins voided because of eyesight issues, Jelfry Marte. I half expect him to go back to the Twins for less than $3 million once the smoke is cleared from the Braves' prospects. Of course if the Twins can't sign any of these prospects they might even want to flip their allocations to another team.

The cost of allocations so far has been minimal. The Phillies SHOULD be in the market for them and it would be a disappointment if they are not. While teams can offer 2018 money for these Braves prospects, I bet teams will be hesitant to do that beyond the top 3 or 4.
