The DSL cuts are making room for players to be signed next week, I assume.

No DSL roster limits but yes, they probably need to clear out 15 players to add 15 more there.

It will be interesting to see if they keep more players down there for another year though as the barrier to make the domestic 165-player limit is greater. I think we'll see more players, especially pitchers, that stay in the DSL for 3 years and then might go straight to full season ball if they make the domestic cut.

Sevilla is the only one of note. $275K bonus, think he was to clear room for better prospects to start at Clearwater.

The Lachlan Wells signing has now been posted on mlb.com's transactions pages, and he's been added to the AA roster (both moves dated 1/7, but just posted today). This puts them over the 175-player domestic roster limit, so presumably we'll see a compensatory move soon.

The extra year or two of nutrition and off season workouts will also create a self-selection process where the DR kids who get the jump in Velo or power between 16-20 will come over ready to make a move, whereas right now some kids come too early before the organization has a true read on their upside - those prospects will be weeded out before they come to the states in the future.

Since most teams will be keeping players in the DR longer, the DR leagues will be more competitive, probably improve to somewhere between FCL and low A. And few 16-18 year olds will play on a regular basis, so those who do will be signalling they might be something special.

He sounds like the RP who made the majors in his 30s after coaching baseball and having his kids push him into a tryout.

King may have lacked the velo to get a contract, then filled out as he matured, maybe improved his mechanics. Certainly has the body of a pitcher. If he has a real splitter and slider, he could move very quickly as a RP.

Jim Morris was the #4 overall pick in his draft year though, and pitched in the minors from 1983 to 1989 (his comeback was 10 years later). Doesn't sound like this guy even tried to sign with a team as a UDFA. But it's an interesting play, given his analytics background (and size).

Odds are he'll never pitch in the majors but that's true of anyone. And, no tread on that arm!
