PHILLIES SIGN HARANG
The Phillies have signed right-hander Aaron Harang to a one-year, $5 million contract, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today. The contract includes performance and awards bonuses.
Harang, 36, went 12-12 with a 3.57 ERA in 33 starts for the Atlanta Braves last season. He finished ninth in the National League in innings pitched (204.1), topping 200 innings for the fourth time in his career.
“Aaron brings a wealth of experience and durability to our rotation,” said Amaro. “He had a very solid season for the Braves last year and will complement the left-handers in our rotation nicely.”
Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the 1999 draft, Harang has a career record of 122-128 with a 4.21 ERA in 358 games (352 starts) for the Oakland A’s (2002-03), Cincinnati Reds (2003-10), San Diego Padres (2011), Los Angeles Dodgers (2012), Seattle Mariners (2013), New York Mets (2013) and Braves (2014). In 2007, he finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting after going 16-6 with a 3.73 ERA in 34 starts.
Harang will wear #34. The Phillies are currently at 39 players on their 40-man roster.
