PHILLIES CLAIM LAFROMBOISE OFF WAIVERS
The Phillies have claimed left-hander Bobby LaFromboise off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Vice President & General Manager Matt Klentak announced today.
LaFromboise, 29, appeared in 11 major league games last season for the Pittsburgh Pirates and posted a 1.13 ERA, allowing one earned run in 8.0 innings pitched. In 54 games for triple-A Indianapolis, he went 1-2 with a 2.98 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .206 batting average.
Originally an 8th-round selection by the Seattle Mariners in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, LaFromboise has posted a 3.63 ERA in 27 career major league games for the Mariners (2013) and Pirates (2014-15). He also made a scoreless appearance in the Pittsburgh’s 2014 Wild Card Game against the San Francisco Giants. At the minor league level, LaFromboise made two All-Star teams (2011-12) and is 37-26 with 15 saves and a 3.56 ERA in 337 games (43 starts).
To make room for LaFromboise on the 40-man roster, left-hander Jesse Biddle was designated for assignment. The 24-year-old Biddle underwent Tommy John surgery this past October after going 9-6 with a 4.95 ERA in 24 combined starts between double-A Reading and triple-A Lehigh Valley.
