Right-hander Chad Gaudin has agreed to a minor league contract with the Phillies with an invitation to major league spring training, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.
Gaudin, 30, went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 30 games (12 starts) last year for the San Francisco Giants, holding opposing hitters to a .227 batting average. He began the season with 18 relief appearances and posted a 2.05 ERA in those games before being moved to the starting rotation in June, where he stayed for the remainder of his year. His season ended in mid-August when he was placed on the disabled list with carpal tunnel syndrome.
Gaudin was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 34th round of the 2001 draft. In 344 combined career games (87 starts), he has gone 45-44 with a 4.44 ERA for the Rays (2003-04), Toronto Blue Jays (2005), Oakland A’s (2006-08; 2010), Chicago Cubs (2008), San Diego Padres (2009), New York Yankees (2009-10), Washington Nationals (2011), Miami Marlins (2013) and Giants (2013).
