I was more taken with the 71 players signed in that class. The big signing was Luis Garcia at $2.5 million but there were a bunch of mid-level signings in Victor Vargas, Carlos Betancourt, Cesar Rodriguez, Israel Puello, Abrahan Gutierrez, and Jefferson Encarnacion all getting in the $250K-$525K range.
We clearly did not get much value in the pitchers, but we kind of know that lower bonuses are the order now. I think that was one of our largest signing pools before they became a fixed amount with market size penalties. Signing 71 was clearly too much IMO. I'd rather sign 40 and not have too many players splitting coaching and playing time. Clearly the roster limits now dictate the smaller class strategy.
