Nice win last night. Phils have scored 28 runs in Kyle Kendrick's first 3 starts, good way to make the kid feel welcome. There was even some PBP of the Mets game in the thread last night, and it was said that it would be neat to have a similar need for that PBP in September too.

Phils are 2 and 1/2 back, another game with the Reds tonight.

While the Phillies play through a soggy night in Philadelphia, the Mets get a rainout at home against the Cardinals, giving them the chance to set up their pitching staff just right for the big series against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. That game against the Cardinals? Rescheduled for late September when it shouldn't matter after the Mets deliver a knockout punch this weekend. Right?

While the Mets cancelled their game to set themselves up for the series that starts today, the Phils had to go 10 innings to beat the Reds. Clutch hitting from J Roll, Jayson Werth scores the winning run as a pinch runner then heads to the DL with a bad wrist. Chris Coste is called up to replace him. Day/night doubleheader today.

Well, day/night losses and the Phils are 5 games out, suddenly. And back in third place. And considering Game 2 was a "MUST WIN" the season is most likely over.

Today it's up to J.A. Happ, making his ML debut, to stop the bleeding. Geoff Geary sent to Ottawa.

Another awful loss for the Phils, losing the first 3 of a 4 game series to the Mets. A loss today would put them right back at .500 and an almost insurmountable 7 games out of first. It's up to Kyle Kendrick to try to save us from all that. Mike Pelfrey recalled from minors to start for the high-flying Mets. And we're posting threads about 'what went wrong this year.'

Phils sent J.A. Happ back to Ottawa, and have called up Anderson Garcia, their 25th different pitcher so far in '07.

All Star selections announced: Chase Utley will start for the NL, Aaron Rowand and Cole Hamels also selected. Hamels picked despite some fans declaring him not to be an 'ace'.

The Mets' decision to call Thursday's game is looking like a masterstroke. I mean, what can go wrong? The Phillies will get hot and catch up with the Mets who will have to play the Cards while they are struggling through an epic and terminal teamwide crisis of confidence and desperately need a night off to step back and take deep breath? Well, the good news is we salvaged the finale vs the Mets to stay above .500 and kinda in the race at 5 games out. The bad news, it's on to Houston, who's been hard for us to beat of late.

A loss yesterday and Roy Oswalt faces us tonight. Ugh. At least the Mets lost to keep us 5 games back. Some bum named Eric Bruntlett went 2-2 with his 2nd RBI of the season last night for Houston.

Salvaged the finale at Houston while the Mets were swept in Colorado, so the 43-42 Phils find themselves just 4 games back. Off day today. Our turn to go to Colorado for 3 before the All Star break.

It should also be noted that as the Phillies head to Denver, the franchise's all-time ledger stands at 9,997 losses. In Philadelphia and around the nation, attention begins to turn toward the Phillies' march toward the ignominious 10,000 loss mark. Will reaching that be the most notable thing to come out of this so far sometimes tantalizing but mostly frustrating 2007 season or will it somehow be forgotten in the end?

Well, Kendrick was OK, considering it was Colorado, but once you hit the bullpen it was another ugly loss and the calls for firing Gillick and/or Manuel were flying during this lost season. One strike away from winning in the 9th. UGH. We're now back at .500 and limping into the break.

Another series, another 'hope we can salvage a game'. It's the last game before the break, the Phils are back under .500, another season of gloom. Also, the big moment talked about earlier is approaching, if we lose today it's 10,000 losses for the franchise. Yay?

Phils won yesterday, ending the 'unoffical' 1st half 44-44, 4.5 games back in 3rd place.

But Mother Nature did indeed make things interesting and the Phils made national news for helping the Colorado ground crew with their storm blown tarp while the Rockies, except for LaTroy Hawkins, watched from their dugout.

“We saw a couple of guys go down and get wrapped up in there, and they could have been suffocated or something,” Howard said. “They never would have been able to get it off with all that wind. We were just trying to help.”

Howard played collegiately at Southwest Missouri State and got some groundskeeping experience. “I’m no stranger to pulling a tarp,” said the Phillies first baseman. “We had to pull the tarp, do the field, put the Diamond Dry out there and all that stuff.”

Victorino said: “It was just a situation where somebody might get injured or hurt, so that’s why we went out there. It was funny, I guess, to see us out there and acting like we knew what we were doing.”

Eaton had persevered through six innings of work before rushing out to help. “Three guys went underneath it and one came out,” Eaton said. “I was thinking, ‘Where are those other two people?”‘

Out in SF, Ryan Howard tried to defend his HR derby title, but went out after one round. Vlad Guerrero won.
