I voted shut down and restarts, but I'm thinking more so that it will start late and have a reduced number of games.

I don't think there is any way in Hades that the NFL season gets called off in full or in part. The NFL will stage a June Super Bowl if it has to do so.

I think there is no way it starts late. Assuming there will be a second wave in October, they will want to get started on time, realizing they may have to stop, hopping there is vaccine or they get restarted once the wave asses.

I think colleges are banking on no second wave until after Thanksgiving. Predicting 'when and if' regarding wave 2 is a real challenge. There should be minimal nursing home deaths if there's a second time with enhanced protocols, and in many states that is well over half the fatalities. That will make any second wave at least appear smaller. And lots of coronaviruses just somehow magically melt away (SARS-1 did this). I wonder how the NFL would handle a breakout in early December?

I think we're long past the melt away stage. Barely anyone caught SARS. It was actually contained. This has not been case with COVID-19.

I don't think the colleges have any clue, what they have decided is they don't want their students leaving campus for Thanksgiving and coming back, therefore spreading or acquiring the virus all over the country. College football is taking its cue from that, though if they really play a season it seems likely the athletes would simply not to get go home for Thanksgiving, since they'd have games that weekend (and the next one if they're on a good team). Seems unlikely they'll have basketball season.

With the NFL the worst case would be they play 10-12 games and then can't have the playoffs until the spring, pretty much the same kind of interruption the NBA and NHL had.
