Haha brutal question. Certainly not Hoskins. And ship has sailed on Eflin. Nola and Kingery are the only guys they locked up (and they arguably blew it with Realmuto. And, go figure, Neris, who they could have probably gotten before 2021 when he had that option, instead of letting him reach FA).

Right now it's not even clear if they have a 3B or a SS for the next two seasons, nor is there a CF. They are treading water/stuck with free agents for a few more years. Ideally Bohm and Stott both prove worthy of early extensions right around the same time the next wave finally arrives but they certainly aren't today.

Not many of the current homegrown players that are about to lose team control (maybe Eflin?). My point was just that we have structured free agent deals so that they aren't a hinderance to extensions of our homegrown platers.

Yup, just a hindrance to being able to replace them with new free agents when they are no longer worth their contracts but still on payroll, as was the case with Cutch, and with Didi (on a contract they didn't even have to give him). Right now it's not even clear Schwarber and Castellanos will deliver value in the first halves, and JT is a concern. Segura is also now an aged sunk cost who makes FA-level money though even a 21 year-old player might have broken his finger on that play.

Well of course he did but I doubt Girardi had any input into the contract terms. Maybe Didi had another offer that we don't know about but seems doubtful. Simmons and Semien had set the market as being one-year deals (and Galvis too, for dirt-cheap).

Yup, I try not to be ageist (I'm no spring chicken myself) but seems like another guy the game has passed by from an organization that specializes in them (yes, he won something pretty recently but only on the back of a previous regime's good work, which is obviously not an option here).

Also he sort of reminds me of Ed Wade.

Thomson seems fine though. The cards he has are the cards he has, hopefully he'll work better with the younger players and doesn't feel too much pressure to try and keep the job. I mean, his mandate is still to make the playoffs and if he does that he'll have a shot at keeping the job. If they stop seeing that as the goal he can switch gears and try to keep the job by being a good development manager.

He claimed the Tigers were worse when he took them over. Well, sure, they also weren't sporting this payroll and had talent in the pipeline he couldn't dream of right now. 10/10 times you would take the 02 Tigers outlook vs the 2022 Phillies

Some guys are going to be leaving town over the next six weeks. I don't believe that the two big deal newbies are on the block; obviously neither is Harper. Unless JT says that he wants out, he'll be sticking around. After that, anyone could be had for the right offer. Fortunately the Phillies scouting is much better than it was during the Klentak days so look for DD to get quality return for whoever he moves.

Well, we have yet to see any evidence of that. Heck, the head of pro scouting has had that job since Gillick was GM I think (and has worked for the team even longer than that). I suppose there's the new assistant GM from Tampa though his picks haven't exactly worked out so far (the various marginal relief pitchers).

I don't think there's going to be a big exodus though, and certainly not in the next six weeks. Right now they are trying to win, and either way I'm quite comfortable saying the Phillies won't make a big trade before July 18, whether they are buyers or sellers. Unless they decide to get a new 2B.

Selling the team will not change anything for several years, and even then it is a huge unknown. New ownership will bring in an all new front office that may or may not be an improvement. At least this front office has them spending money and recognizes they need to be better at drafting, player development and the use of information.
