Well obviously you'd make that part of your pitch to Aaron, and if it really worked, by all means, he's no worse than Stubbs! Hard to believe he was hitting the ball pretty well and playing more as recently as last year's playoffs. I would think he's minor league deal material in any case.

Cardinals just added Gibson as well. Their starting rotation is currently some order of Mikolas, Matz, Lynn and Gibson. Extremely mediocre.

Martinez is an interesting signing. He looked good in the Padres rotation. Even if that doesn't work out he could be a good multi inning reliever. Good signing by the Reds, I think.

The Yanks would have to get him to agree to an extension first.

Padres might have been better off letting Machado walk with his opt out and used the money on a Soto extension.

He is almost certainly not going to take an extension, so yeah, the Padres are asking for too much.

It's certainly possible whichever team gets him will extend him but that's what everyone thought about Machado too.

I don't know that the Mariners have a bigger fish on the line. Supposedly they are already out on Ohtani. Perhaps they are in on Yamamoto. But they are not a high-payroll franchise, even though they should be. Not as cheap as Tampa or Cleveland but right there with Milwaukee and Minnesota. Their GM (Klentak's mentor in Anaheim) seems to be the opposite of Dombrowski, the window to go for it never actually arrives.
