Phillies started off with a walk, single, walk to load the bases with no outs. Next three hitters made outs but two runs scored on ground outs.
Lead off home run for the Nationals made it 2-1 after one inning.

Is Nola ok? Saw on MLB that Crews hit a line drive deflected by Nola that turned into a single. There was an injury timeout, but no info on what was going on. I guess we'll see if he comes out to pitch in the 3rd.

He did come back out.

Nola continues to pitch in this game.

End of 4 innings, 2-1, Phillies.

Nola has given up 4 hits in 4 IP. No walks, 5 Ks. First batter in first inning hit a home run to give the Nationals their run.

Phillies have one hit and two walks, same as they had after the first three hitters in the first inning.

Top of the fifth:
Clemens walks
Sosa singles.
Stubbs singles. Bases loaded.
Schwarber singles. Two score, runners second and third.
Turner pops up.
Wilson doubles, two runs score. Wilson replaced Castellanos after first inning, giving him 162 games for the year.

Pitching change for the Nationals with one out in the 5th, runner on second. Phillies lead 6-1.

The bottom of the lineup gets things going again, good to end the regular schedule with a win..

Bottom of the fifth inning, Nola starts off with a K followed by single, single, single to produce a run for Washington. First hit was to left, second a bunt fielded by Sosa but runner beat throw. Third hit was ground ball just past Stott into right. Run scored and runners first and third, one out.

Nola got a K for the second out, but hung a curve that was laced into left to make it 6-3. Runners first and second, two outs.

Nola stays in and gets a ground out, 4-3, to end the inning.

End of five innings:
Phillies 6-5-0
Nationals 3-8-0

Nola starts the sixth. Crews its a fly ball to center that goes off Marsh's glove and ends up as a triple. Terrible play in center by Marsh.

Alvarado coming in to pitch.

Cost Nola a shot at 200 IP for the season. Wonder if there was a bonus in his contract for that?

I doubt it, what does he need another $50 or $100K for? Bonuses are usually for things like ASG or CY; innings and starts tend to be more incentives, given to guys on lower salaries in an escalating fashion (like Turnbull, for instance).

But it was a symbolic goal.

I appreciate letting Casey get to 162, but why are Turner, Schwarber, Bohm, Stott and Marsh still in the game. We need them too.

Could we just have relievers that will not make the postseason please. An injury here should result in Thomson being fired.

Alvarado sharp coming in with a runner on third and no outs. Got a pop up, K, and a ground out. Well done. Sure would help to have him hit a hot streak in the post season.

Phillies have Harper, Hays, Realmuto, and Rojas left on the bench. Hard to replace anyone in the lineup if Hays and Rojas are hurting or sick today. Rojas has been sick and I think Hays would be playing if he were up to it. Kennedy did go in for Turner, playing third and Sosa moving over to short.

Bonus payments for playing time (games, at bats, plate appearances, innings pitched, etc.) more likely in contracts for someone coming off injury or a bad year. I doubt Nola had such a clause, but very few players get to 200 innings anymore.

Yup everybody who can play has played or is playing. I don't think BK was thinking Harper and Realmuto should enter the game. Maybe Walker can catch .

Stott and Bohm start the 8th inning with singles. Clemens HPB with one out to load the bases. Sosa hits into an inning-ending DP. Disappointing.

Banks pitched the scoreless bottom of the 7th. Strahm in for the 8th.

End of 8 innings:

Phillies 6-9-0
Nationals 3-9-0

Ruiz to pitch the ninth for the Phillies.

Bullpen innings from Alvarado, Banks, and Strahm have been shutout innings with no hits or walks, five Ks (1,2,2).
