The trade with the Red Sox is possibly the worst trade of the season. Has been a net negative for us with the two jokers we got from them.

Did anyone expect anything different from Workman? I can not believe how many hangers he has thrown in the number of games that he has been here.

That interference call really killed them. Though I'm sure Workman would have found away to allow three runs.

Someone compared the Boston trade to the Cook/Wendell trade but I think that's probably really unfair to Cook and Wendell (and also I think we gave up more).

Of course, Phelps, the guy we still hope turns it around, also gave up three earned runs.

Really a shame, pretty good offense today even if they could have had more and as bullpen games go, well-done even if not all of the choices went as planned.

Heh, we always talk like that when they play this badly and then they turn it around. But only four games left to do so, and three of them in the worst possible situation (road against an elite team). Plus it might be too late by Friday.

Another game lost when the bullpen blows a lead in the final inning. It almost seems like it is destined to happen.

The Red Sox deal just keeps coming back up like a midnight bowl of chili.

I have been Luke warm on firing the baseball brass, but it may be necessary if for no other reason than to keep some season ticket base for the 2021 season. Down to the last eight games with the post season just about locked in, and then lose the next four. 2020 may be a short season, but that just magnifies each game. Losing four in a row is like losing 11 in a row in the normal season.

So three season now of being on course for post season play and then tanking badly at the end of the season. Yes, time for a new baseball operations head and a new GM.

i think that's about it for me. what a shame. this team is limping toward the end with their 2 best players injured. one great item of this season is the coming of age with Bohm. Thank goodness something very good happened. Don't know what to think about kingery, he at least got his money for a great spring training a few years ago. Talk about Jumping the gun too fast. wow. Didi was a great addition. i didn't realize he was that nice of a player. he'll go elsewhere, JT will go elsewhere. i think you can not only stick a fork into this team for this season, but maybe a few more as well. doesn't look to good.

I don't think they have the stomach to rebuild. And they'll pay for JT just like they paid for Bryce, and possibly regret it (whether short-term for its effect on the overall roster/payroll or in three years).

But for sure, as flawed as this team was, and as much as good teams with good systems can better overcome injuries, they were still basically cruising to 31-32 wins before the hitter injuries happened.

But they were also never good on the road or in the doubleheaders, so finishing with 14 physical road games out of 18 (and four doubleheaders) was also an easy formula for collapse.

Ed Wade's worst failing (annoying doesn't count) was his awful trade deadline deals for relievers. Klentak has proven himself to be worse than Wade.

I don't really blame him on that count. Workman and Hembree weren't saviors, just depth, and supposed improvement over the marginal guys, especially with our best returning relievers also faltering at the time. Phelps was so good that their only mistake at the time (seemingly) was not getting him in free agency instead of for three lottery tickets. Unlike Wade, Klentak understood relievers were unreliable and hard to value, he's just had an unbelievably bad run throwing them against the wall (and also flopped on the one guy he did value, Robertson).

The problem is not the relievers per se but rather poor budgeting and a poor minor league system made it impossible to get better relievers (which are still rare).

Hale, Morgan, Hunter, Neris: 6.1 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, 7 Ks, 0 HR.

Phelps, Romero, Workman: 1.0 IP, 8 runs (one unearned, the runner starting on second in extra innings), 7 hits, 1 walk, 1 K, 2 HR. 2 blown saves.

Of course, a couple disasters ruin the whole day.
