If it wasn't for bad luck we'd have no luck at all. 0-5 in Nola's last five starts right? Or is he just winless?

I mean as usual it's not truly over but it appears they'd have go at least 9-6 - certainly 8-7 won't do it - to stay in it and they are only just playing .500 ball at home. So you're probably just sparing yourself a week of agony that lies ahead.

That would be only 85 wins. It would be something of a travesty if 85 wins earns a wild-card berth. It also would mean that Klentak blew it by not adding a starting pitcher FA in what is likely the easiest season in the course of the Phillies current up-cycle to reach the playoffs. By contrast, the two teams currently holding the wild-card spot in AL standings ALREADY each have 88 wins. Going into the season, I thought 89 wins got a wild card berth, perhaps 88 if we got really lucky. But 85? Middleton was right to declare all-in and stupid-money this season. A shame Klentak was unwilling to spend enough stupid money. So, the modest expenditure on Keuchel would have gotten us to the playoffs.

Yeah, I had just been reading this MLB.com story which speculated on how there could be a five or six-way tie for the wild card. A lot of teams would have to blow it for 85 wins to do it. Phillies might actually be hard-pressed to get to 83 now (that would be 7-7). Elimination is now #11 so that will probably happen during the Nats series.

I don't think they blew it money-wise but they clearly blew it evaluation-wise. They didn't think Keuchel was good enough (and apparently made him an offer that reflected said opinion). And they were still overrating the 3 young guys in June.

That's now 14 out of 32 games Nola has started this season in which the Phillies have scored three or fewer runs and eight games in which they've scored two or less.
