The usual bad inning from Nola and one bad inning from the bullpen from the relatively reliable Neris and the game was just out of reach of the Phillies offense. Four runs just not enough today.

So the Phillies have

lost a series to the Marlins (2 of 3)
lost a series to the Brewers (2 of 3)
and now lost a series to the Rockies (3 or 4).

That's 3 wins in the last ten games, which is nowhere good enough to get to the post season. Unless the Phillies run off some multiple game win streaks, the season is toast. They are 72-71 and playing around .500 the rest of the way just is not good enough.

The one positive is that the schedule includes series with the Cubs (home), Mets (away). Orioles (home), Pirates (home), Braves (away), and Marlins (away). With 4 series agains losing teams and two series against the NL East teams they need to beat out, the opportunity to win the NL East is there. The Phillies just have to change the results they are getting of late and start playing winning baseball.

Aw. He's certainly the player mostly likely to ride into another rebuild, though hard to see him staying for a fire sale.

I guess the question is, when we get to July of next year and are looking at another 80-85-win club, will that 2026 ASG make them desperate to rebuild in time to have a decent club again by 2025, or will they still try to keep the contending window with Nola (2023 option), Wheeler (signed through 2024) and JT (signed through 2024) open?

I'm pretty much ready to stick the fork in them today. Sure, we could see another 8-2 run accompanied by a Braves swoon (against better teams) to keep it interesting, but hard to imagine they'll be two games out by the time the Braves series arrives (and even that could just lead to more heartbreak against the Marlins). Could also get eliminated before all that of course.

the only 2 phillies that are likely to be on the 2026 roster, that are here this year is Harper and... Bohm. Maybe a couple of the relievers and Marchan..

this one is worse because we are a generally dominant home team and a generally terrible road team (which is also why we made it right against Arizona. But not these guys).

(ok, "dominant" might be a stretch but they have a .571 WP and that's probably the bare minimum pace they have to keep for all the games from here).

One can’t expect to win games when only one of your eight players in the field is healthy and of starting MLB quality-Harper. The other OFs are mix and match platoon players at this time. I believe that Segura and Realmuto are playing through shoulder issues. The rest of what takes the field are guys that should be temporary fill ins.
Like it or not, this season is cooked and has been for a while. It’s time to search out a better roster for next season; who stays and who goes. My suspicion is that, If there is going to be a season next year, Dombrowski is going to do a major overhaul. We phans might want to start sharing thoughts about ‘22.
