The Phillies are not going to catch the Braves and they are not going to qualify for a wild card. The double header loss last night finished off any chances they might have had.
I hope they can get a solid lineup for next season that will have at least six regulars who start almost all the games at the same position and I hope they have a much more consistent batting order. I am fine with one or two positions that do some platooning and with giving regulars a day off periodically. They can use the day off to recharge and it gives bench players some action to keep them sharp. I love versatility but primarily in the bench. I think most players benefit from a fairly consistent routine during the season. Knowing you are starting at the same position and batting in the same spot is something that I think helps most players.
I saw Kingery in Clearwater this spring and thought he was a star in the making. The signing of the contract came as a big surprise to me. I expected he would start in AAA and come up in May. I think he somehow got off track and perhaps he was hurt by not having more time in AAA. Regardless, they have to figure out what his role will be going forward.
