I'm not sure the good Lorenzen was ever going to exist. He was the guy we're seeing now 2 of the 4 months with Detroit, and ace-like the other two. A 4.00 ERA 1.20 WHIP pitcher might be what he is, and he'd maybe get there/level out if the season went on, but was probably not going to have another peak month given his limited starting history and innings pitched. And sometimes you just don't pitch as well after a trade, even though he did just that for two games.
But all of that is why he wasn't acquired to be anything other than a 5th starter/swingman/injury insurance. At best he was going to be an upgrade over Sanchez but Sanchez hasn't lost the job. Hopefully he'll pitch six or ten good innings in the playoffs over four to six games.
Thinking about yesterdays game today, I can't help but remember just how good the Braves are, and how much better they are than the Phillies in the standings. What they've shown so far, as they did last year, is that they are capable of hanging with them in any given series, which is all you can ask for. Atlanta is also an historically good offense, so when they beat up on our pitching and bullpen it's not entirely an indication that the pitching stinks. Just that it's not quite good enough to prevail over an elite line-up. Our line-up has its stars and promising young guys but they've got more (and their stars are younger).
