I think it's an availability issue as much as anything, which is why they couldn't burn him in the 5th or 6th. Estevez still in line to pitch two nights in a row I reckon.
And all managers make mistakes, or have strength and weaknesses. They all get it right and get it wrong and have good luck and bad luck over 162.
I don't think he's on a short leash and the buck stops with him, but they have both a front office and a pitching department scripting every game and every available pitcher and match-up to some extent, and we haven't a clue about the details.
