I am sorry to see Eflin not get the win tonight. He turned in a super start, 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 run. Deserved to get a win.

Neris gets the win along with the blown save. Gets 5 outs without giving up a hit, and was inserted in the 8th to clean up the mess set in place by Morin. It took a wild pitch when a ball got past Realmuto to allow the run. The big injustice for the pitchers is giving a hold to Morin. He is responsible for Eflin not getting a win tonight and IMO he is responsible for the blown save charge to Neris as well.

A big cheer for Kingery for getting the bases clearing double in the 8th to give the Phillies the win. Great to see clutch hits with runners on base.

Fortunately nobody cares about holds.

This win kind of bummed me out, tbh. We should have won this series and would be only two games out. Gotta make up for it in Queens next weekend if it's not too late. Hopefully tomorrow will be one of those weird games where our offense tees off, Reds will be tired too.

For a while Morin a s Parker looked liked real finds but recently, they've gone back to being the guys Minnesota found dispensable.

Hoskins looks back on track.
Kingery had a slump midseason, but looks like he's made adjustments, really like this kid.
Haseley is hanging in there, despite missing that needed half AAA season, hasn't looked overmatched.

Eflin showed why I always have liked him more than Velasquez and Pivetta, he's learned how to pitch.
While it's easy to blame Young, teaching him the high 4 seamer completed his repertoire, it balances his low 2 seamer (except the one to Alonso), and his slider and changeup complete the package.
He looked like he did his first 12 starts, hopefully he's come out of the other end of the development path.

But that's a bullpen for you. They didn't lose their jobs in Minnesota because they stunk per se, they lost them because Minnesota had better options. We do not. But even when they stink the salvage jobs occur.

Many/most of the relievers, especially middle relievers, who have actually been good for us over the years have also stunk for us (and others). Which is also Jared Hughes' story this year.

Funny thing is we've had so many injuries we haven't actually had to endure many slumps, or a guy actually pitching himself off the roster (except for the kids). Alvarez was not especially good for several months and then he was. Nicasio went from mediocre to reliable to unreliable (but he's also had injuries).

The big thing is a plus start from Eflin. He is very important for next year.

Hoskins looks back on track.

He gets in big trouble when he dips his left shoulder to reach the low outside pitch to pull into left field. Hopefully Charlie can cure him of that. He has the power to take that pitch out the other way; especially in CBP. Actually both Harper and him swing too hard at times. The both have the power to take a ball out of most parks in any direction.

Yep. They should learn from Howard, who admits that his success came from focusing on hitting the ball to the left/center alley, and after his injury, he tried pulling to get more power and that killed his career.

Hoskins has a more compact swing than Harper, but gets in trouble trying to pull outside pitches, Harper I think was trying to earn his contract earlier in the season and relaxed in August.

The best swing is Kingery, the most infuriating hitter is Realmuto, who consistently chases outside sliders, as a catcher, you'd think he'd know how they're setting him up. Segura has a very good stroke, if he had more plate discipline he could challenge for the BA title (chases too many pitches out of the zone for weak contact).
