Well, we specifically didn't sign him because he wanted two years and is quite old! But he still would have been our third-best starter last year (just a hair behind Eflin WAR-wise).
We dodged a bullet on Hamels too.
As it turns out, in in a normal season I think his rotation was probably good enough. 5th starters are always shaky. Had Eflin flopped or Howard wasn't ready, they would have upgraded in July. Now, though, with so few games and less opportunity to make trades, it feels like those 5th starts will be magnified. Even for the Yankees.
