Of course it is early/meaningless right now, but at the end of the day this team is still built to win with the bats. Take Didi out and discount Gosselin and there's a lot of ugly numbers there. One cold week - i.e. this series and the next one - could really dig a hole, even if with the mitigating circumstances.

Gotta love it when your DH bats last. The purpose of a useful DH is to "hit" right, so I would think you typically want one who bats in the middle of the order.

Garlick had a 1,000 OPS against LHP last year. So batting 9th just speaks to the incredible strength of the lineup.

I imagine it's not that unusual in the AL either, as teams moved on from the pure hitter types to a mix of more versatile platoon players. Plus you gotta keep Gosselin high!

So much for the "9th hitter as second leadoff man" theory though. Ideally Garlick is mean to knock in Quinn and Gosselin.
