Trea batting 8th certainly catches the eye.

I fully agree with Turner batting 8th. He will still get his at bats and the chance to improve his play. I hope he can start contributing more both on offense and defense. He is better than his play with Philadelphia has shown. I hope his bottom of the order lineup spot takes some pressure off of him and that he starts playing better.

The team needs him to be better.

Too bad they still have a LF who isn't worthy of batting higher than 9th. Even so I might put Cave 8th and tell Turner, "get on base for Schwarbs."

The question is at what point this season do we start bringing in a defensive sub for him also. Seems crazy, he has been a very good SS, but this season he has been bad (despite advanced stats saying otherwise). The crucial ball in play hit to him is not a good feeling.

I get it is an overreaction, everyone has bad plays (anyone remember Utley literally turning a win into a loss with a bottom of the 9th bad throw), but I can't think that he has any confidence left. He knows he blew it yesterday. He knows he has been awful. I fear he is sitting there thinking "please don't hit it to me" in crucial situations.

I like how you still acknowledge the advanced stats and that it is an overreaction though.

The clever way to do this without it showing up Turner specifically would be to bring in multiple defensive subs (Castro at 3B Sosa at SS) but then, inevitably, that will lead to a situation where the absence of Bohm (or Harper) costs them after a blown save.

I also think in spite of everything most opposing managers and pitchers would still be thrilled to get to face Sosa (and definitely Castro from his weak side) instead of a slumping Trea Turner.

IMHO, Cave will hit ML pitching for average soon. Rojas has done better lately and earned some starts, which is too bad for Cave.

Dyin' to see wth we've bought with Lorenzen. Can he pitch 6 holding the Ms to 2 runs? If so, he'll pitch the 7th. Huge game coming after the debacle last night.

Bohm might be moving into #2 in the order to stay.

If Turner is still broken by the last game of the stretch with no days off, I might be tempted to give him several days off in a row. I think that there’s a week when the Phillies are off both Monday and Thursday. Let Turner sit from Sunday though Thursday. He could still pinch run or pinch hit for someone like Cave against a LHP.

What makes you think hes suddenly found something. Hes 30yo and has 1111 major league plate appearances with a sub .700 OPS.

I don't know what you think you see in Cave. He came out of spring training at MVP levels and couldn't hit major league pitching. He's come out of AAA at MVP levels and can't hit major league pitching. He is 30 years old and in more than 1000 ABs he has never been able to hit major league pitching regularly.

For his career, he's a solid hitter against RHP but I'd still rather see Pache or Rojas in CF even against RHP (with Marsh in LF).

In a perfect world Hall wouldn't have flopped so badly. if they are going to carry both the CFs (and they pretty much have to unless they option Rojas short-term) a bat-first LHB would actually fit.
