If he clears waivers, and he refuses the outright (opts for free agency), that's a win, too.

Based on the discussion in another thread, I think the Phillies are on the hook for the rest of the guaranteed money in his contract even if he elects free agency. So I’m not sure management sees this as a “win”. I’m thinking that Walker may just become the mop up man in the bullpen in September.
