Well, since Jose Bautista is starting in RF tonight, the Phillies are continuing this trend.

This is annoying. Unless they want to give Bautista a game in the field to prove that he's worth keeping around for September. Perhaps if he has a bad game, he's gone by the weekend for a different waiver pick up. To me, he's nothing more than a bat off of the bench. Williams has played well. He's working counts, hitting the ball and doing reasonably well in the field. He's exceeded my expectations for his play this season.

Now that we have Bautista we probably should platoon Williams and Bautista. Williams is not really better than Bautista defensively and does have a platoon split (814/640 OPS). Bautista does not have much of a split but is slight better against LHP. Gio Gonzalez, a lefthander, is pitching tonight so Bautista should play.

We're all a little in love with what Williams accomplished this year just like we're in love with Franco maybe salvaging his career, but I think it's safe to say the Phillies aren't sold on either of them as full-time everyday players going forward. And if we want a better defense those are still two upgradeable areas, even if the mistakes by Herrera and Santana feel more noticeable.

And Williams has been cold lately.
