Something that Klentak needs to take to heart. The Phillies will be 4.5 games back of the Braves but could easily still be in first place had they not blown so many winnable games over the past two weeks.

I don't know if you could write a script for an inept bumbling team better than the Phillies have played it these past couple weeks. I have seen some really bad Phillies teams but for consistently shooting yourself in the foot, these guys are pretty close to the best I have ever seen.

This is what happens when a pitcher (inexperienced runner) is used in a situation like this late in the game. He shouldn't have been tagging up and, when he did, he was in an unfamiliar situation.

Ugh. This team is, simply put, bad at 2/3 of the game and is not a playoff ready team. Not yet. Overall, this season has been largely positive, but the ending just stinks.

He was on the base waiting for the catch and left for third just a fraction of a second before the ball went into the outfielder's glove. It was very clear that he left early on the replay.

What I don’t understand is how a group of professionals can keep making these sorts of mistakes. These guys have been playing baseball for most of their lives. They should know how to run the bases and make accurate throws.

I’m holding out hope that they can fix this, but they’re running out of time, and they’re not helping themselves by making so many mental mistakes.

It seems entirely understandable to me that a pitcher pinch-running in that situation would choke. Not acceptable, but understandable.

Any one play is, really. But doing it 2-3 times a night is not.

Velasquez has very limited experience running on a fly out. This is what happens when you have to have so many pitchers and such a short bench. Velasquez absolutely was the right move to put there. Let's say they tie it an go extras - who is your pinch hitter? Arrieta?

This is mainly what I’m getting at. Multiple players per game are making mistakes, which suggests that the organization isn’t stressing fundamentals enough.
