Another line drive caught. Bad luck on the line out double play, but hopefully not important. Need 3 outs to nail down the game.

Tommy Edman

Pitching Change: Craig Kimbrel replaces Jose Alvarado.
Ball (95.7 mph four-seam fastball)
In play, out(s) (95.2 mph four-seam fastball)

Tommy Edman flies out to center fielder Johan Rojas.

I think the Cardinals paid the biggest dividend. (And Lorenzen's no-hitter didn't necessariliy mean he was going to pitch like that against good teams either).

Alec Burleson

Ball (95.3 mph four-seam fastball)
Swinging strike (95.6 mph four-seam fastball)
Ball (85.9 mph knuckle curve)
Ball (87.3 mph knuckle curve)
Foul (95.1 mph four-seam fastball)
Ball (96.1 mph four-seam fastball)

Alec Burleson walks.

Cardinals team OPS is just behind the Phillies, 4th best in the NL. Braves, Dodgers, Phillies, Cards.

Paul Goldschmidt

Ball (95.2 mph four-seam fastball)
Swinging strike (95.9 mph four-seam fastball)
Ball (96.2 mph four-seam fastball)
In play, no out (95.3 mph four-seam fastball)

Paul Goldschmidt doubles (26) on a line drive to left fielder Kyle Schwarber. Alec Burleson to 3rd.

First hit by Goldschmidt off Kimbrel.

And now we are in dangerous ground.

Need some outs.

Nolan Arenado

Mound Visit.
Ball in dirt (87.9 mph knuckle curve)
Swinging strike (blocked) (86.6 mph knuckle curve)
In play, out(s) (96.1 mph four-seam fastball)

Nolan Arenado pops out to second baseman Bryson Stott.

Willson Contreras

Swinging strike (blocked) (87.2 mph knuckle curve)
Swinging strike (96.6 mph four-seam fastball)
Pitcher Step Off
Ball (95.7 mph four-seam fastball)
Swinging strike (95.4 mph four-seam fastball)

Willson Contreras strikes out swinging.

Phillies give up just 3 runs, 11 hits and 3 BB in the 3 game series. and struck out 34

I appreciate the job Kimbrel has done this year for the Phillies, but I’m wondering if we need to start mixing and matching for the 9th inning.

Phillies are a season-high 14 games over .500. They sweep the Cardinals in Philadelphia for the first time since 2003. The winning pitchers then were Padilla, Myers and Telemaco.

Okay, granted they have some players and obviously pitching is their biggest issue. And hey all credit to the Phillies for leaving no doubt (after all they just lost a series to the Nats last weekend).

Kimbrel just looks like a normal closer to me, we've just forgotten what that looks like. I preferred the mix-and-match but you still need a top reliever to face the toughest hitters when you do that regardless of inning, and right now, there isn't anyone I'd call a sure thing.

The #Phillies outscored St. Louis by 22-3 in this series.

Only 4th time in history they've outscored STL by 19+ in a series, and first time in 114 years:

May 1896 (3G): 36-13 (+23)
Aug 1897 (3): 30-11 (+19)
Aug 1909 (5): 38-15 (+23)
Aug 2023 (3): 22-3 (+19)
