I think they are just alternating the right handed bats and want to get their high OBP guys at the top of the order. This was more about Quinn while realizing that inserting someone else like Cabrera or Santana in the 3rd spot was not really working. No problem trying this. Not sure it does much about the larger problem of knocking in runs though.

Agreed. But if you're gonna move Cesar out of leadoff why not try Hoskins at 3? And every other guy they've tried at clean-up has obviously been lacking (and they don't want to put that on Franco or Williams) whereas Santana also works at #2 even if his OBP is currently down.

I’ve actually been wondering about that, as it would give Hoskins more RBI chances while still ensuring that he got to bat in the first inning. This team needs a new Utley-like hitter who can do everything with the bat. Herrera can be that guy when he’s on, but he’s still Herrera.

I think Eflin, Pivetta, and Velasquez have all shown this season that they will be ML starters for many years. I have been pleased with how they have looked. They are not top of the rotation aces but certainly have a future as solid 3 or 4 starters.
