That would be great. The evidence points more to an 850 OPS hitter though with below average defense (dWAR of -1.1 last year, -0.4 this year). By the time he is in his late 20s he is probably a DH.

Hoskins has quietly raised his OPS to .821, while his hot start is probably a fluke, it may be that so is last year's second half - if he can settle down in the .900 OPS range with average fielding, that's just fine.

Let's be clear here. If Alec Bohm were to "settle down in the .900 OPS range" with above-average fielding or better - he's HoF caliber (Mike Schmidt's career OPS is just over .900). So saying he'd be "just fine" as a .900 OPS third baseman with average defense is either glaringly obvious or deliberately understated. A .900 OPS third baseman who isn't an outright butcher in the field is probably an All-Star in multiple seasons.

I have guarded optimism about Bohm. He looks like a good hitter, and he should develop consistent power going forward, but as others have said, we've seen more than our share of prospects who started hot and fizzled, but this kid is pedigreed, athletic and should have a better chance to succeed and possibly be an all star caliber player.

I thought that too, but I think AF's pronouns or word choices are just a mess. Because Hoskins didn't have a hot start. And to say he would "settle down" to .900 doesn't make sense either (though it also doesn't for Bohm).

Should have said "hot start to his career", my point was he seems to be fixing the problems that plagued him last year, while he's probably never going to hit like the future HOF player he looked like his first 600 PA or so, with his plate discipline if he just continues to improve he can be a consistent .900 OPS guy.

I think the key to Hoskins is similar to Howard a few years ago, when they use the whole field they're first rate hitters, when they fall into pulling outside breaking balls (usually as ground balls into the shift) that's all they'll ever see. Howard admitted he slipped when he stopped trying to drive balls to left CF, that is, don't try and pull outside pitches (note this isn't the same as taking it the opposite way, rather, using that target to discipline yourself from over-pulling and pulling off the ball).

Bohm just looks like a pure hitter, he has no issue taking a pitch to the opposite field.

Bohm had Kris Bryant as a comp from before the draft. That is starting to look like a solid fit. My hope is that the Phillies do not do to Bohm what the Cubs have done with Bryant. Just let him play 3B and live with it. Bryant was no GG at the position but he was adequate with his bat helping him. Putting Bryant in LF was a joke because he was as weak in the OF as he was at 3B. Chicago messed up and with Bryant and now they will pay the price when he leaves as a FA.
